Jury retires to consider verdict in Adam Johnson child sex trial

The jury retires to consider its verdict in the trial of Adam Johnson, who is accused of two counts of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

The jury has retired to consider its verdict in the trial of former Sunderland footballer Adam Johnson, who is accused of two counts of sexual activity with a child under the age of 16.

The 28-year-old is alleged to have been involved in a sex act with a 15-year-old girl while in his parked car last January.

Johnson denies those two charges, but has pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with her and a further count of grooming.

During the 13-day trial at Bradford Crown Court, it was heard that the alleged victim was a Sunderland fan and had two meetings with Johnson, the first of which involved him giving her two signed football shirts.

Judge Jonathan Rose told the 12-person jury on Tuesday that a unanimous decision on each count must be met.

Johnson was sacked by Sunderland after he admitted to child sex charges.
