St Helens overcome Catalans Dragons to book Grand Final spot

Surprise package Catalans Dragons fall short of another major scalp by losing out 30-12 to St Helens at Langtree Park.

St Helens have defeated Catalans Dragons 30-12 at Langtree Park this evening to book their place in the Super League Grand Final for the first time since 2011.

The Saints had to overcome an early setback, with Morgan Escare crossing over on 20 minutes for his 28th try of the season as the French outfit looked to continue their impressive run.

Four minutes later Jordan Turner managed to level the game up courtesy of a try of his own, while Adam Swift gave St Helens an interval lead when he found the chalk shortly before the break.

The League Leaders' Shield winners did not look back in the second half, adding a third try after 49 minutes through Willie Manu to create some breathing space for the first time.

Mose Masoe and Mark Percival touched down within four minutes of each other shortly after the hour to put the game beyond doubt, ending surprise package Catalans Dragons' campaign in the process.

There was still time for Michael Oldfield to pull one back, but it was not to be for the visitors who had previously defeated Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants on their run to this stage.

St Helens will now face either Wigan Warriors or Warrington Wolves in the Old Trafford showdown.
