Matty Smith has stressed the importance of Wigan Warriors finding momentum early on in the Super 8s.
The Cherry and Whites finished the regular Super League season in third place.
Wigan struggled to truly find any consistency, however, with their longest winning run stretching to five games.
Smith now wants to see his side hit the ground running when they get the inaugural Super 8s competition underway against Huddersfield Giants this evening.
"It's important week in week out that you perform and you're picking up wins," he told the club's official website. "I don't think anyone has been as consistent as they would have liked and that includes us.
"We're in a good position, though, two points off Leeds and they've got the Challenge Cup to focus on too. We just need to perform regularly and find that consistency.
"We've got a tough start with this game then Leeds away and Warrington away but if we do well and get points in those games then we could be top of the league so it's in our hands really."
Warriors beat Hull FC 48-12 in their last league outing.
