Tom Mitchell desperate to lead England to gold in Glasgow

Tom Mitchell believes that the odds are in England's favour ahead of the Rugby Sevens at the Commonwealth Games.

England Sevens captain Tom Mitchell has insisted that his team are ready to make full use of the advantages on offer to them ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Mitchell is convinced that having a short distance to travel could be a key factor for England as they look to improve on the fourth-place finish achieved by the side which attended Delhi four years ago.

"We haven't had to travel far which is a benefit, and where we are after the training we've done, we're in a really strong position so we're hoping to do very well, and it's certainly realistic to be up there," the 25-year-old told reporters.

"Speaking to some of the guys who were in Delhi four years ago, a fourth-place finish is pretty tough to swallow and everyone is pretty determined to go well this year."

England's pool games take place on Saturday, with the event being completed with the knockout matches on Sunday.
