Northampton Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder has admitted his desire to coach the England team.
Current national boss Martin Johnson has come under criticism after his side crashed out of the World Cup in New Zealand.
Reports have claimed that Johnson may be replaced at the helm, with Mallinder being a possible target.
"Every player should want to aspire to play for his country and I think that's probably the same for coaches too," he said. "You should always aspire to be the very best you can.
"If one day, I ever have that honour, it would be something that would be very difficult to turn down."
The 45-year-old previously coached the England Saxons in 2006.
