James Hook penalty gives Gloucester last-minute win over Saracens

James Hook kicks the winning points in the last minute to give Gloucester a 24-23 win over Saracens.

A last-minute James Hook penalty has given Gloucester a 24-23 win over Saracens in the Aviva Premiership.

Hook scored from 50m after Saracens were found to be offside when trying to see the game out, after Mako Vunipola had seemingly won them the match with the visitors' third try of the night.

Saracens made a perfect start to the game when a driving maul from a early lineout forced a penalty try after Gloucester held the ball up on the line, before Alex Goode added the conversion.

Gloucester wasted a good opportunity to hit back shortly after as England international Billy Twelvetrees failed to slip the ball to Jonny May, who was well placed.

Hook and Goode both kicked two penalties each, before Gloucester scrum-half Dan Robson latched on to the end of his own box-kick to score Gloucester's first try minutes before half time.

Saracens quickly re-established their seven-point lead just five minutes into the second period, when Billy Vunipola powered over the line from a driving maul.

Hook scored another penalty, before Gloucester ran the length of the pitch to score their second try as May and Gareth Evans combined to set up substitute Callum Braley.

After a long delay for an injury to Gloucester's Nick Wood, Mako Vunipola scored Saracens' third try from a drive as he crashed over from just one metre out.

Goode missed the conversion, and that proved to be pivotal as Hook scored the winning points with the last kick of the match.
