Dai Young unhappy with Wasps performance

Dai Young acknowledges that Wasps will have to massively up their game in the coming weeks if they are to finish in the top four of the Aviva Premiership.

Dai Young has urged his Wasps players to up their game following Sunday afternoon's comfortable victory over relegated London Welsh if they are to remain in the hunt for an automatic European Rugby Champions Cup spot.

Wasps were expected to run away with their weekend meeting against a winless Welsh side, although there were just four points in it at one stage in the second half.

However, having stepped things up a gear to claim a 40-13 win, Young now wants to see his side improve further in the closing weeks of the season.

"The performance was not anywhere near what we expect or what we set ourselves," he is quoted as saying by the Coventry Telegraph. "I suppose at the end of the day we've come away with five points and no injuries, so we are pleased with that.

"But with performances like this we are not going to win too many games, so we need to improve. We were on a hiding to nothing here really. If you win by a large margin people expect it. We scored 40 points but I still don't think the performance was anywhere near what we'd expect from ourselves.

"Next up we have Exeter, and we all know how well they've been playing, with another good win against Northampton. After that we have Leicester Tigers, so two massive games on the way that could either cement us in the top six or put us under pressure."

Young's charges are currently five points adrift of a top-four spot in the Aviva Premiership.
