South Africa end New Zealand's Rugby 7s dominance at Commonwealth Games

South Africa hand New Zealand their first defeat in the Commonwealth Games in the Rugby 7s to claim the gold medal at Ibrox.

South Africa have ended New Zealand's dominance of the Rugby 7s at the Commonwealth Games to secure the gold medal at Ibrox.

The All Blacks started the game strongly and took the lead through Sherwin Stowers as the side broke quickly upfield following a turnover.

However, the Springboks responded as New Zealand's Bryce Heem was sin binned and Seabelo Senatla went under the posts just before the break to level the scores.

Senatla upped the ante in the second half as he showed blistering pace down the flank to speed past a man to put his into the lead.

South Africa all but sealed the win as Cecil Afrika capitalised on an error from DJ Forbes as he spilled the ball into the path of Afrika and he sprinted to the corner to touch down to put his side 17-7 ahead.

Joe Webber managed to score a late try to make things interesting, but the Springboks managed to hold out for the victory to condemn New Zealand to their first-ever defeat at the Games.
