Rebecca Adlington reveals that she spoke to a sports psychologist before her 800m freestyle win at the British Swimming Championships on Friday night.

Rebecca Adlington has revealed that nerves forced her to speak with sports psychologist Simon Middlemas before her 800m freestyle win at the British Swimming Championships on Friday night.

The 23-year-old, who qualified for the London Olympics in the 400m freestyle earlier in the week, booked her second place in the Team GB squad with a time of 8m 18.54s at the Aquatics Centre in London.

Despite the triumph, Adlington claimed after the race that the occasion almost got the better of her.

"I love to race it but I was definitely so nervous I spoke to Simon Middlemas before the race and he just said 'Man up Rebecca', and I just said 'Oh, OK'," she told BBC Sport.

Meanwhile, Lizzie Simmonds secured a place at the Games in the 200m backstroke, while Michael Rock earned a spot in the 100m butterfly.
