Ellie Simmonds says that she is pleased to have almost reached a personal best in the women's S6 50m freestyle heat, where the Brit finished in second place.

Great Britain's Paralympic double-gold medallist Ellie Simmonds has claimed that she is satisfied with her second-place finish in the women's S6 50m freestyle heat.

The 17-year-old, who claimed her second gold in the women's SM6 200m medley last night, recorded a time of 36.45s in the Aquatics Centre this morning.

"The 50m free is my fourth best event, so I'm coming here to try to improve my 100m free, which is later on," Simmonds told Channel 4.

"I nearly did a PB (personal best), which was really good. To do that time, with the pain I'm feeling tonight, well not the pain, I'm just dead."

Mirjam de Koning-Peper of the Netherlands managed to clinch a Paralympic record of 35.05.
