ASA welcomes Sport England's continued investment in swimming

The ASA welcomes Sport England's £6m investment in swimming.

ASA chief executive Adam Parker has welcomed the news that Sport England will continue to provide investment for swimming.

The body confirmed this week that £6m is available for the ASA to increase the amount of people participating in the sport over the next two years.

"We welcome Sport England's ongoing commitment to swimming and look forward to working closely with Sport England and our partners and using our expertise to form these programmes," said Parker.

"Swimming is the most popular participation sport in England with over 2.6 million adults taking part once a week and we believe we are developing a strong strategy based on greater insight to encourage even more people to take part in swimming and other aquatic sports over the next two years."

Sport England intend to invest in pilot programmes focusing on social swimmers after a 10% reduction was made in the funding allocation.
