Great Britain's Fran Halsall through to 50m freestyle final

Great Britain's Fran Halsall is through to the final of the women's 50m freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

Great Britain's Fran Halsall has progressed to the final in the women's 50m freestyle after setting the seventh-fastest time in the semi-finals at the World Swimming Championships.

The 25-year-old, who is the Commonwealth champion in this event, finished third in her semi-final in a time of 24.50.

Defending champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands, who has a silver medal from the women's 4x100m freestyle, won the first of the two semi-finals.

However, the quickest time came in the second semi-final, which was won by Australia's Cate Campbell in 24.22 seconds, putting her ahead of Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom and 100m champion Bronte Campbell.
