Petra Kvitova has reached the third round of the French Open with a 6-4 6-3 victory over Peng Shuai.
Both players struggled to hold their serves in the opening exchanges, each breaking twice to make the score 3-3. However, Kvitova took the ninth game with her first break point before serving out the set.
The Czech dominated the early part of the second set, racing 4-0 ahead thanks to two breaks of serve. Despite Peng claiming the next two games, Kvitova held her serve comfortably to move 5-3 ahead.
Kvitova proved too strong for her Chinese opponent in the final game, breaking serve again to take the second set in 32 minutes.
The world number seven will face American Jamie Hampton in the next round.
