The Spaniard, who is known as the 'king of clay', showed his intent immediately by breaking the Scotsman's serve at the first time of asking and racing to a 3-0 lead.

The one break point is all that Nadal needed as he swiftly moved to a one-set lead, and continued his dominance in the second set by grabbing another early break point.

The British number one struggled to come close to testing Nadal as he lost the second set having won just seven points on the Spaniard's serve after the first two sets.

Murray had a mountain to climb in the third set, but once again, Nadal showed his strength by earning an early break point to take a comfortable 2-1 advantage.

It become a formality for Nadal in the end as he broke the Scotsman's serve once again to keep up his dominance and grab victory to push his winning record to 65 matches at Roland Garros.
