Heather Watson loses to Sloane Stephens in Paris

Heather Watson sees her French Open campaign come to an end, as she falls to a 6-2 6-4 defeat against American Sloane Stephens.

Heather Watson has crashed out of the French Open at the second-round stage, having been defeated in straight sets by Sloane Stephens.

The 23-year-old, who appeared to be hampered by an arm injury, fell 6-2 6-4 in what was her first career defeat against Stephens.

Three losses of serve inside the opening five games set the tone for Watson, who made 30 unforced errors throughout the match.

Stephens, currently ranked 40th in the world, did not look back in a more evenly-contested second set, as she finished off the Brit to pave the way for a meeting with Tsvetana Pironkova.
