Sara Errani has progressed to the semi-finals of the Madrid Open after a straight-sets victory over Russia's Ekaterina Makarova.
Errani enjoyed the better of the early exchanges. Makarova made 16 unforced errors while Errani won two out of three break points to eventually take the first set 6-4.
The Italian world number seven broke Makarova twice in the second set, going on to close out the match 6-3.
Errani will now face number one seed Serena Williams in the last four.
