Great Britain suffered another narrow Fed Cup defeat on Saturday, losing 2-1 to hosts Hungary.
GB's hopes of advancing from Group 1 of the Europe/Africa zone had already been ended by a loss to Romania on Friday.
However, things were looking up for Judy Murray's side when Heather Watson got the team off to a strong start against Hungary by recording her third consecutive singles win.
Watson, who had already beaten Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko and Romanian number two Sorana Cirstea, overcame Reka-Luca Jani 6-4 6-1 in an hour and 15 minutes.
Despite an impressive display by Johanna Konta, Romania levelled the tie when Timea Babos won the second singles rubber 4-6 7-6(7-5) 6-4.
Tara Moore and Joss Rae then paired up for the deciding doubles clash, which they lost 5-7 7-5 6-3 to Babos and Jani.
