Rafael Nadal has won the Madrid Masters for the third time in his career, beating Stanislas Wawrinka 6-2 6-4 in the final.
The Spaniard wasted little time in the first set, breaking his opponent twice to secure the set 6-2, while Wawrinka struggled with his serve.
The fifth seed faced a sterner test in the second, as the Swiss found his rhythm on serve, but Nadal was able to break before serving out the set.
Wawrinka fought hard against the French Open champion's serve in the final game, knowing that a break would get him back in the set, but he was unable to prevent Nadal from sealing the 55th singles title of his career.
The result gives Nadal his fifth tournament win since returning from a knee injury in February.
