Novak Djokovic aims for Wimbledon title after reprieve

Novak Djokovic says that he needed a break from tennis after his French Open final defeat - but vows to come back stronger at Wimbledon.

World number one Novak Djokovic has said that he is ready to defend his Wimbledon title after taking a break from tennis following his shock French Open final defeat.

The Serbian, who also won the Australian Open, would be returning to the All England Club aiming for a third successive Grand Slam title if not for Stanislas Wawrinka, who stunned him at Roland Garros last month.

Djokovic, who did not participate in any grass-court tournaments in the build-up to Wimbledon, says that he was mentally exhausted, but hopes to come back stronger at SW19 on June 29.

"I needed some time off, more mentally rather than physically," he told reporters after beating Richard Gasquet in an exhibition at The Boodles.

"There are days when you really need to take some time off and even though I know it could have been useful to play a couple of official matches on grass, it's not the first time I'm coming straight into Wimbledon.

"I've regrouped, spent some time with the family, got my thoughts off tennis for a little bit - now I'm back in my office and hopefully I'll be able to perform well."

Djokovic will play Philipp Kohlschreiber in round one.
