Tomas Berdych comeback downs Pablo Andujar

Tomas Berdych beats Pablo Andujar-Alba 4-6 6-0 6-3 7-6 to reach the last 16 of Wimbledon.

Tomas Berdych survived a scare to beat Pablo Andujar in four sets to reach the last 16 of Wimbledon this evening.

The sixth seed surrendered the first set to his Spanish counterpart, but the 2010 finalist responded with aplomb to clinch a 4-6 6-0 6-3 7-6 win in two hours and 45 minutes.

One break of serve apiece in the first six games saw the duo deadlocked on 3-3 as the world number 37 looked like proving a markedly tougher opponent than expected.

Another break by the Spaniard in the ninth game opened the door for him to snatch an early lead, and Andujar served out the first set to draw first blood in the match.

The early advantage only served to rile the Czech - a beaten finalist to Rafael Nadal five years ago - as Berdych took the gloves off with a second-set whitewash to level up the match.

The third set was shaping to be significantly more competitive as the duo held their respective serve for the first seven games, but a crucial break by Berdych in the eighth saw him move 5-3 ahead en route to leading the match.

Both players endured an erratic fourth set, which included four broken service games between them, but Berdych held his serve when it mattered to force a tiebreak.

The world number six dominated that by a 7-3 margin to secure his passage into the round-of-16, where Gilles Simon awaits.
