Zoe Smith "can't believe" gold medal

England's Zoe Smith is delighted with her performance to win gold in the -58kg weightlifting final on Saturday of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Team England -58kg weightlifting gold medal winner Zoe Smith has admitted that she "can't believe" how good her performance was under the pressure of the Commonwealth Games final.

Smith managed 4kg more than second-place Ndidi Winifred of Nigeria and she said that although gold was the target, she was not sure if it was achievable.

"I was just somewhere else entirely, I just can't believe it," she told Team England. "I have done 118kg before, I knew I could do it, but doing it on the day is a completely different situation altogether.

"To have that 118kg over my head and stand still with it and getting the down signal was the biggest wave of relief I have ever felt. Part of me is glad that that is all done and dusted now.

"This has been a long time coming. I was always going for gold but whether I would get it or not was another thing entirely."

Smith won bronze in Delhi four years ago as a 16-year-old.
