Team GB's Elise Christie "confused" by decision

Team GB's Elise Christie says that she does not agree with the referee's decision to penalise her for a clash with Li Jianrou in the 1,000m semi-finals.

British speed skater Elise Christie has said that she does not agree with the referee's decision in the women's 1,000m semi-finals at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The 23-year-old was penalised for impeding Li Jianrou of China, and neither athlete was allowed to compete in the B final.

"Never in 100 years did I expect to get a penalty for that," she told Team GB's official website. "I'm confused really.

"That is the problem with this sport – it's different referees each time and you have to deal with it. There is no consistency because every referee has a different opinion.

"I am going to say again, I will always respect the referee's final decision. I have to accept that anyway as that's short track but I don't agree with it."

Christie was stripped of her silver medal in the 500m event and was also disqualified from the 1,500m last week.
