Jack Whelbourne: Elise Christie "annihilated the field"

Great Britain speed skater Jack Whelbourne believes that his Team GB teammate Elise Christie "annihilated the field" on her way to reaching the quarter-finals of the 1,000m.

Great Britain speed skater Jack Whelbourne believes that his Team GB teammate Elise Christie responded to adversity in perfect fashion as she "annihilated the field" in the 1,000m.

Christie was stripped of a silver medal earlier in the Winter Olympics in the 500m, while she was also disqualified in the 1,500m, but came back to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 1,000m with ease.

"She is in a good place now. I am pretty sure she will be happy with that and she annihilated the field, which was surprising because I thought she might struggle a little bit more," Whelbourne told The Guardian.

Whelbourne finished last in his heat in the 500m.
