Republic of Moldova miss out on first European Games gold

Abdulrashid Sadulaev beats Moldova's Piotr Ianulov in the men's 86kg freestyle final to win yet another wrestling gold for Russian Federation.

The Republic of Moldova have missed out on a first ever gold medal at the European Games, after Piotr Ianulov tasted defeat against Abdulrashid Sadulaev in the men's 86kg freestyle.

Ianulov beat Sandro Aminashvili in the semi-finals to advance through at the Heydar Aliyev Arena, but he was outclassed by his Russian opponent in the final.

Despite losing out on gold, it is still a best ever result for Moldova at the Games, building on their two previous bronze-medal successes at this year's competition so far.

Radoslaw Marcinkiewicz and Aminashvili, of Poland and Georgia respectively, had to settle for bronze in the wrestling event.
