Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has admitted that he needs to earn his place in the team despite being selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
The 21-year-old was touted to be a top-five pick in the Draft but fell to 22nd overall where the Browns traded up to get him.
The former Texas A&M Aggies star will now compete with Brian Hoyer for the starter's job at the Browns for the 2014 season and is wary of being too complacent.
Manziel told reporters: "I'm a rookie. I need to earn my place. I need to earn my keep. I don't need to be treated based off what I did in the past because that doesn't mean a thing at this level.
"I was completely okay with hearing that from everybody. I don't want to come in and have anything handed to me that I don't deserve."
Manziel won the Heisman Trophy in 2012.
