Jabaal Sheard: 'Brian Hoyer will fight for starting role'

Cleveland Browns linebacker Jabaal Sheard insists that quarterback Brian Hoyer will not give up his starting job lightly following the arrival of Johnny Manziel.

Cleveland Browns linebacker Jabaal Sheard has insisted that Brian Hoyer will not give up his starting role in the team without a fight.

Hoyer is expected to face fierce competition for the starting quarterback jersey after the Browns chose Johnny Manziel with the 22nd overall pick in this year's Draft.

However, despite his high profile, Manziel has already been warned by head coach Mike Pettine that he is not guaranteed the starting job, and Sheard doesn't expect Hoyer to give up his place lightly.

"Hoyer's going to come out fighting. I'm not worried about that," Sheard is quoted as saying by ESPN.

Hoyer was beset by injuries during his first season in Cleveland last year, managing just three appearances and throwing five touchdown passes.
