Former Green Bay Packers safety Charles Woodson says that he is surprised not to have found work with another NFL team since being released in February.

Charles Woodson is "surprised" that he is still a free agent following his release from the Green Bay Packers earlier this year.

The 2009 NFL defensive player of the year has only met with the San Francisco 49ers since being cut in February, but has not heard from the team since.

The 36-year-old told NFL Network: "I don't really know, but I would assume, two days after I left [the 49ers] signed a safety, then they picked up a young safety in the Draft. That's two more safeties added to their roster, so I don't really see that being an option at this point.

"I am surprised because I don't think there's any question in anybody's mind whether or not I can play football, so, my issue is, you know I can play football, why am I not on a team, why haven't I had more visits? I'm kind of surprised by it.

"I've been playing football for a long time, I've been in the NFL a long time. I love the game, I love to play and I know I have a lot left to give the game. So that would be frustrating not being on a team this coming season, but if that's the case, that's the case."

Woodson was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 1998 before moving to the Packers in 2006.
