Ryan Mallett determined to battle for starting spot at Houston Texans

Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett declares that he will battle until the end of training camp to convince head coach Bill O'Brien to hand him a starting role.

Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett has revealed that he is determined to battle all the way to earn the starting spot at the club for the 2015 season.

The 27-year-old started two games for the AFC South side in the last campaign before injury ruled him out for the year.

The arrival of Brian Hoyer has brought his place into question, but the quarterback is adamant that he has faith in head coach Bill O'Brien to give him a chance to prove his worth.

When asked if the battle for the starting spot was still alive, Mallett told reporters: "Are you counting me out?"

"I trust Bill O'Brien with my career, so I feel like I'm going to get a fair shot. Those two games, it was just kind of like a little taste. But I really - I want more."

Mallett threw for 400 yards and two touchdowns to two interceptions in the 2014 season.
