Ryan Fitzpatrick joins Houston Texans

The Houston Texans agree a deal to sign former Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on a two-year contract.

The Houston Texans have signed former Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on a two-year contract, the team have announced.

Fitzpatrick, who was deemed surplus to requirements by the Titans following the addition of Charlie Whitehurst to their roster, announced that he had been released by the team last week.

The 31-year-old is now on the other side of a similar scenario, joining the Texans in a situation that calls incumbent quarterback Matt Schaub's position with the team into question.

Schaub has been linked with a trade to the Oakland Raiders, and the addition of Fitzpatrick appears to pave the way for such a move, which could in turn lead to the Texans choosing a quarterback with their number one overall pick in this year's Draft.

Fitzpatrick spent just one season with the Titans but saw plenty of action due to an injury suffered by Jake Locker, starting nine games and throwing for 2,454 yards with 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

The former seventh-round Draft pick has also played for the St Louis Rams, Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills, posting career figures of 16,790 yards, 106 touchdowns and 93 interceptions in his 85 career games.
