The Minnesota Vikings have reversed their decision to reinstate Adrian Peterson by suspending the running back from all team activities while his child abuse case is ongoing.
The 29-year-old was expected to play against the New Orleans Saints this week after the Vikings gave their backing to Peterson.
The NFL star was arrested last week and released on bail after allegedly hitting his child with a tree branch as a form of discipline.
Peterson has denied intending to hurt his four-year-old son, who suffered multiple injuries as a result of the incident in May.
Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf said: "After giving the situation additional thought, we have decided this is the appropriate course of action."
Peterson could be sentenced to two years in prison if convicted.
