Roger Goodell hopes to expand NFL playoffs

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says that he is keen to increase the number of teams competing in the playoffs.

Roger Goodell has said that he wants to increase the number of teams that reach the NFL playoffs.

The league's commissioner announced at an NFL meeting that adding an extra two teams to the post-season is a priority.

Goodell told NFL.com: "If expanding the post-season would allow other teams to get into the dance, and they have the potential of going on and winning the Super Bowl, that's a good thing for fans, that a good thing competitively."

Currently, the winners of each of the eight divisions, plus two wildcards from each conference, compete in the playoffs for a place in the Super Bowl.
