Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera has stated that injury will keep Cam Newton out of his team's game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
Newton sustained a back injury in a car crash on Tuesday, and while he was released from hospital just 24 hours later, Rivera has confirmed that he will miss game time.
The quarterback's injury is similar to one that Dallas Cowboys signal caller Tony Romo suffered last season, and he too missed a game because of it.
Backup Derek Anderson will replace Newton in the side, as he did in week one, when the first-choice man missed out with a rib injury.
Coincidentally, that game was also a divisional clash with the Bucs, but Newton was not missed as Anderson led his side to victory.
