Australia captain Michael Clarke has withdrawn from their ODI series with India after aggravating a back injury.

The Baggy Greens play a seven-match one-day series from October 11 under the guidance of Steve Rixon due to Darren Lehmann being rested.

However, the 32-year-old, who suffered throughout the summer Ashes tour against England, will now cause concern as to whether or not he will be fit for Australia for the return series after being replaced by Callum Ferguson.

"Michael Clarke has a longstanding low back injury that requires ongoing management," Australia's team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris told reporters.

"During the recent England ODI series his injury flared up again and has been slow to improve with his regular treatment regime.

"Michael will therefore not be available to play the upcoming India ODI series and will require a more extensive rehabilitation period before returning to competitive cricket."

It is not yet clear how long Clarke will be out for.
