Peter Wright has defeated Wes Newton 5-4 in a thrilling PDC World Championship quarter-final clash at Alexandra Palace.
It is the third defeat in four years in the last eight for the 36-year-old from Blackpool, who had fought back from two legs down in the decider to take it to sudden death.
The 43-year-old Scot needed 121 and finished with a bullseye to win 5-4 and seal his place in the last four.
Newton took a two-set lead and had a chance to go 4-2 ahead after Wright had levelled the match, but missed his opportunities and allowed his opponent to make it 3-3.
Wright hit a 107 checkout to clinch the seventh set and move within one of the semi-finals, before taking a two-leg lead in the decider.
Newton battled back and took the match into extra legs with a maximum 170 checkout in the eighth set, but Wright came up with a brilliant finish of his own to edge an entertaining encounter.
