Ex-Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour favours Alexandre Lacazette over Eddie Nketiah

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour feels that Alexandre Lacazette should be getting the nod over Eddie Nketiah at this stage of the season.

Ray Parlour feels that Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette should be getting the nod over Eddie Nketiah at this stage of the season.

For Sunday's Premier League fixture against Newcastle United, Mikel Arteta handed an opportunity to youngster Nketiah, resulting in Lacazette being named among the replacements.

However, after the academy graduate was withdrawn, Lacazette ended his two-month wait for a goal, leading to Parlour to suggest that the more experienced frontman should be handed an immediate recall.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Parlour said: "Eddie struggled first half, holding the ball up, which is what Lacazette does so well. He brings other people into play.

"Second half he was better and had a couple of opportunities for himself. That's where managers have to make big decisions, but at least he's showing he will give the youngsters a go."

Lacazette is expected to start when Arsenal face Olympiacos in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
