Gabriel Magalhaes is passed fit to start for Arsenal in their Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Gabriel Magalhaes has been passed fit to start for Arsenal in their Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

The Brazilian centre-back was withdrawn with an injury in the dying embers of Tuesday's 3-1 win over Chelsea, but there was optimism that he had avoided a serious problem.

Having been given the green light to start, Gabriel holds his place in the backline alongside Jakub Kiwior, who makes his second successive Premier League start over Rob Holding.

Mikel Arteta has made just the one change to the side from Tuesday's win, as Gabriel Martinelli comes in for Leandro Trossard, with Jorginho given the nod over Thomas Partey in midfield again.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has also made just one alteration from last weekend's 3-1 victory over Southampton, promoting Callum Wilson to the first XI in place of Anthony Gordon.

Wilson - who scored a brace off the bench against the Saints - starts alongside Alexander Isak in the final third, while Joe Willock lines up from the off against his former club.

Allan Saint-Maximin is among the substitutes after recovering from a thigh injury, but Sean Longstaff is still absent for the hosts with an ankle problem.

Newcastle United: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Willock, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Wilson, Isak
Subs: Dubravka, Dummett, Gordon, Saint-Maximin, Manquillo, Lewis, Targett, Anderson, Almiron

Arsenal: Ramsdale; White, Kiwior, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Jorginho, Xhaka; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Jesus
Subs: Turner, Holding, Tierney, Partey, Smith Rowe, Trossard, Nelson, Nketiah, Vieira
