Paul Lambert: 'Aston Villa need one more win'

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert says that one more victory will ensure that his charges remain in the Premier League beyond this season.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert believes that one more victory will ensure that his charges remain in the Premier League beyond this season.

The Villains sit five points clear of the relegation zone in the table, having earned a 0-0 draw at home to Southampton this afternoon, and the Scot believes that one more win will preserve his side's top-flight status.

"To play the way we did in the second half, against a good Southampton side, I cannot fault the effort," he told BBC Sport. "The lads deserve enormous credit and with their energy and desire I couldn't be prouder.

"Our goal difference is pretty good, so we'll probably need one more win [to be safe from relegation]."

Villa conclude their 2013-14 campaign with away visits to Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, either side of hosting Hull City at Villa Park.
