Dani Alves is confident that Barcelona can reach the semi-finals of the Champions League even if Lionel Messi is not fit.

Barcelona right-back Dani Alves has insisted that his side can qualify for the Champions League semi-finals with or without Lionel Messi.

The Argentine was withdrawn at half time against Paris Saint-Germain after suffering a hamstring injury and it is as yet unclear whether he will be fit for the return leg.

However, Alves said that Barcelona are looking forward to the challenge of proving people wrong who claim that they are a one-man team.

"It has been quite a fright, but in the end not as bad as it could have been," Marca quotes Alves as saying.

"For us it will be a great chance to show that we're still a competitive team without him. We can get through with or without Messi, although [we are] better with him."

The second leg takes place next Wednesday night at Camp Nou.
