Lionel Messi: 'Progress in Champions League was never in danger'

Lionel Messi believes that the tie was never in danger on Wednesday as Barcelona knocked Manchester City out of the Champions League.

Lionel Messi has claimed that Barcelona were never in danger of being knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Starting the second leg of their last-16 tie against Manchester City with a 2-0 lead, Barcelona won 2-1 in front of their own fans thanks to goals from Messi and Dani Alves to secure their progress in the competition.

"We played well throughout and achieved our objective of getting through," Messi told Canal+.

"Despite their goal I don't think the tie was ever in danger. Prior to my goal we were controlling the game and could have scored before.

"We knew we had to get a goal to calm ourselves down because of the potential they have."

Barcelona are looking to lift the famous trophy for the fifth time in their history.
