Everton will reportedly be priced out of a move for PSV Eindhoven defender Denzel Dumfries.
The Toffees were thought to be at the head of the queue for the Netherlands international, who is expected to leave PSV during this summer's transfer window in search of pastures new.
However, journalist Valentijn Driessen has claimed that the right-back is instead heading to Italy, as Rafael Benitez's side cannot afford to sign the 25-year-old in the current market.
"Yes, yes, yes (he is going to Italy), then you have Everton playing in the background. Only for me, Everton don't have the financial capability. You can't just spend anything and everything anymore," said De Telegraaf journalist Driessen.
Dumfries scored four times and registered nine assists in 41 appearances for his Dutch club during the 2020-21 campaign, while he also impressed for the Netherlands at Euro 2020.
Bayern Munich and Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in a player who is believed to be valued by his Dutch outfit in the region of €25m (£21.5m).
