Mark Warburton: Matthew Benham wants a "more European model"

Mark Warburton reveals that he is leaving Brentford in the summer because the club's owners wants to adopt a "more European model".

Brentford manager Mark Warburton has revealed that the club's owner, Matthew Benham, wants to adopt a "more European model" after it was announced on Tuesday that the boss would leave the club at the end of season.

Warburton will step down from his post when the campaign ends in May, and he told talkSPORT of Benham's future plans for the club and how it "didn't sit right" with him and his backroom staff.

"The owner of the club is looking for a different direction, he wants to adopt a more European model," he said. "One with a sporting director and head coach, where the head coach hasn't got the absolute veto on players coming into the club.

"In all truth it's not a model that sat very comfortably with me and I think you have to be totally honest to take a club forward in the right way, and it didn't sit right with myself, David Weir or Frank McParland.

"The owner Matthew's business is statistical analysis of players in leagues around the world and it's a magnificent resource we've tapped into over the last few months, we've utilised it really well."

The Bees are currently seventh in the Championship.
