Gordon Strachan backs Celtic to beat Ajax, AC Milan

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan backs former side Celtic to claim all three points in tomorrow night's Champions League clash with Ajax.

Former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has declared that the Hoops have enough quality to beat Ajax at the Amsterdam ArenA tomorrow night, as they bid to improve their chances of progress in the Champions League.

Neil Lennon's side earned their first win in this season's group stages in a 2-1 success over Ajax at Celtic Park a fortnight ago, with the return fixture in the Dutch capital on Wednesday evening.

Strachan thinks that the Bhoys can profit from a weakened Ajax outfit to claim success away from home this week, while also insisting that they have enough quality to exact revenge over AC Milan in their next Group H match later this month.

He told The Guardian: "I think Celtic can win on Wednesday and I think they can beat AC Milan. That's not just hoping; I definitely think they can beat them.

"They're a better team than Ajax at this moment. The Ajax team will develop; they look like a youth team – I don't think anybody has had a shave in that team. When you look at them and the Juventus team Celtic played last season, they were men.

"At the moment I think Celtic have the strength and the knowhow to definitely get a result there, because Ajax are not in the best of form just now. And they can definitely beat AC Milan."

Lennon will be without a pair of key midfielders when Celtic leave for Amsterdam later today, with captain Scott Brown and Nir Briton both missing through suspension.
