Rio Ferdinand: 'Chelsea must win trophies to sign Stones'

Rio Ferdinand says that Chelsea must win trophies to attract Everton defender John Stones to the club.

Rio Ferdinand has said that Chelsea must win trophies in order to attract John Stones to the club.

Stones was linked with a move to Chelsea throughout the summer but Everton rejected three bids for the player.

"When I look at someone like John Stones at Everton, for example who is going to give someone at least 10 years good service. When you try to sign a player like him, you have to sell him a dream," Ferdinand told BT Sport.

"There are a lot of ways to try and get this guy through the door but at the end of the day, if the kid has got anything about him, he will be saying 'where can I go to win trophies?'

"I hope that is the first question all young players ask rather than who is going to pay them the most money."

Stones played against Chelsea in Everton's 3-1 win on Saturday.
