Giorgio Chiellini admits that Juventus need to step up their game against Bayern Munich next week to progress to the Champions League semi-finals.

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has urged his side to play with more intensity when they host Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie next week.

The Italian champions went down 2-0 in the first leg at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, thanks to goals from David Alaba and Thomas Muller.

"We weren't really up to it today," he told UEFA.com. "We knew Bayern have a team full of great players and tonight they were superb.

"They played with such intensity for the whole 90 minutes and we simply weren't prepared for it. That's what made the difference out on the pitch tonight.

"We need to up the tempo, like Bayern did tonight, and if we can put in a good performance in the return leg there's still hope that we can get through."

The defeat in Munich was Juventus's first in 19 matches in Europe.
