Andre Villas-Boas reveals he was approached by Liverpool before Spurs move

Andre Villas-Boas reveals that he held talks with Liverpool before taking charge at Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.

Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that he held discussions with Liverpool about becoming their new manager before he joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.

The 37-year-old, who was sacked by Chelsea two years ago, left Spurs last year and went on to take over at Zenit St Petersburg.

The Portuguese coach has admitted that Liverpool were interested in him, but at the moment, he is content staying away from England.

"I chose Zenit also to get away from the media glare," the London Evening Standard quotes Villas-Boas as saying. "I've had my fill of media sensationalism and false promises.

"I had talks with Liverpool. Returning to England definitely not in my plans, although life takes many turns. Coaching in England was a positive experience, but also many negative things happened."

Current Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is under pressure following a poor spell in the Reds' season and some reports have claimed that the club are considering possible replacements.
