Vincent Kompany: 'New Manchester City players hungry to succeed'

Vincent Kompany is optimistic that Manchester City's six new signings are "hungry to win" titles with the club, as he targets a third Premier League crown.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has said that he hopes the club's big summer outlay on new recruits will 'provide the spark' needed to make them champions again.

Citizens boss Pep Guardiola has responded to last term's trophyless campaign - his first in senior management - by splashing out more than £200m on fresh faces.

It is a record amount spent by a Premier League club during the off-season, with a month of the window still left to go, and Kompany believes that the incoming arrivals at the Etihad Stadium have the right winning mentality to succeed.

"We've replaced some key players in the team that did a lot of good over the years," he told reporters. "But the important thing was replacing them with players of equal quality at least - because they've been big players for us down the years.

"It's good to get some new guys, new faces, who are hungry to win. Everything is there to be achieved for them. Hopefully they will add that spark that we need to be champions again.

"Bacary [Sagna], [Pablo] Zabaleta, [Gael] Clichy, [Aleksandar] Kolarov - they were all leaders and had a huge impact at this club. Look at Zaba what made him so popular, the way he was. Look at that when you come into a club like this. If you can bring some of that to your game, the way you approach the game then you'll always be a success at City."

Six players have arrived at City in all this summer, with full-backs Danilo and Benjamin Mendy the latest to join for £26.5m and £52m respectively.
