Scottish giants Rangers announce that midfield duo Scott Arfield and Alex Lowry have both signed new contracts with the club.

Rangers have announced that midfield duo Scott Arfield and Alex Lowry have both signed new contracts with the club.

Arfield, 33, was set to see his contract expire at the end of this month, but the Canada international has now penned a one-year extension.

Eighteen-year-old Lowry, meanwhile, has been linked with a move to Premier League duo Manchester City and Newcastle United in recent weeks, but the highly-rated academy graduate has decided to extend his stay at Ibrox until 2025.

Speaking on his new Rangers contract, Arfield told the club's official website: "I am absolutely delighted to have signed this new deal. I've always looked for longevity and stability at a club, and I am so pleased to have had that and have it going into the future here at Rangers.

"The next couple of weeks are so exciting for us with the potential silverware on offer, and also the opportunity to secure Champions League football.

"When you get to this stage in your career, your family is the most important thing, and I couldn't imagine moving them again. To be staying put at Rangers is just fantastic for all of us."

Lowry has also spoken about his new deal, adding: "I want to thank (Sporting Director) Ross Wilson, (Head of Academy) Craig Mulholland and the boss (Giovanni van Bronckhorst) for giving me the chance and for showing faith in me.

"I can only thank them and hopefully I can repay them by kicking on now and getting more and more games and good performances under my belt for this great club."

Arfield joined Rangers from Burnley in the summer of 2018 and has since made 185 appearances across all competitions, scoring 34 goals and providing 18 assists.

As for Lowry, the midfielder joined the club's academy as a 10-year-old, and on January 21 he made his senior debut as a substitute in the Scottish Cup against Stirling Albion, before playing the full 90 minutes in his first Premiership game against Livingston five days later.
