Club legend Gary Neville has criticised Angel Di Maria's time at Manchester United, days after his wife made derogatory comments about the English city.
Di Maria spent one year at Old Trafford, contributing four goals from 32 appearances before being sold to Paris Saint-Germain in 2015.
Earlier this week, Jorgelina Cardoso was less than complimentary about the area, describing it as a "s***hole".
In response to the comments, Neville has responded by rating Di Maria's brief spell in the Premier League as "awful", acknowledging that he performed well below expectations.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Neville said: "All I would say is, we hear these stories from time to time where a player has played like a drain, like Di Maria did at Manchester United.
"He was awful and I had high expectations and excitement when he came to the club thinking we were signing a top player. He was never interested from day one."
United made a loss of nearly £11m when they allowed Di Maria to cut short his time in England.
