Rennes' sporting director affirms that Manchester United-linked Eduardo Camavinga will be sold this summer if he does not pen a new deal.

Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice has affirmed that teenage protege Eduardo Camavinga will be sold this summer if he does not pen a new deal with the club.

The 18-year-old's existing deal with Les Rouge et Noir is set to expire in the summer of 2022, meaning that he could walk away for free next summer if fresh terms are not agreed.

Manchester United are supposedly plotting a move for Camavinga should Paul Pogba depart the club, and Rennes chief Maurice is not prepared to let the club's protege leave for nothing in 2022.

Speaking to France Bleu, Maurice said: "It is a very difficult transfer market and his future could depend on the movements of other clubs. Either we will extend it [his contract] or we look for a solution to sell him.

Letting him go for free, after we have raised him, is not good for anyone. He can choose between saying 'I want to go' and 'I want to stay. I know what he wants to do, but then we have to find a solution that satisfies all parties."

Camavinga boasts two goals and five assists from 82 games in a Rennes shirt, although Pogba's proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain could be off the cards if the Ligue 1 side manage to sign Lionel Messi.
