Manchester United reportedly make a fresh approach to sign Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji, who has less than 18 months remaining on his contract.

Manchester United have reportedly made a fresh approach to sign Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji.

The 26-year-old has less than 18 months remaining on his current contract and his future with the Bundesliga outfit remains uncertain, as talks over an extension have failed to progress.

A previous report has claimed that the Switzerland international has turned down the club's latest contract offer worth around €9.5m (£8m) per year.

According to Bild, United are prepared to offer Akanji a bumper new contract worth £240,000 per week, which would be close to double the £130,000 per week he is currently earning at Dortmund.

The report adds that BVB will not stand in the player's way if he wants to leave the club this summer and they would be open to cash offers lower than their previous asking price worth in the region of €25m (£20.8m).

Akanji has played 150 times for Dortmund across all competitions, including 28 appearances this campaign.
